Don't get stuck in optimization.
Sometimes optimizing may entangle things too much. Imagine you have Important-A to be solved at place X. Non-important-B is also solved at place X, so you want to take the most out of the trip. But B, though, still requires some papers first. Because B is not important, you don't take care of those papers: B gets stuck, and gets Important-A also stuck and you are stressing yourself out of optimization-mania! Avoid this. Don't overthink it. Just go and solve A. B will have its chance later on.
Remember: you'll have an inner sense of optimization and utility working all the time. It's a nice principle to be efficient. Just don't get sequestered around that. As to project managers, specially IT area: this is a classic one... the notion that "while you're at it, you could also make this little improvement..." and then you mix "nice to have" with your priorities and all your planning blows up...
I just wanted to say thank you for creating your site and sharing what you share. Everytime I read some of your ‘tricks’ it brightens my day and gives me something great to think about.
